Mario Jovel

Mario Jose Jovel is a civil and criminal defense attorney in San Francisco, California.  Born and raised in San Francisco, Mario attended Balboa High School, SF State, Cal and Hastings Law School.  Mario’s parents emigrated from El Salvador to escape the political climate.  In San Francisco, Mario’s father joined the Painter’s Union and had many memories of being a union organizer in San Francisco.   Mario’s mother became a welder’s assistant and a locksmith.  Both of his parents modeled the value of hard work to their children.

In college, Mario worked for Mission Community Legal Defense in San Francisco.  After law school, Mario worked for the Legal Aid Society of Santa Cruz County as a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow Recipient.  Later, Mario worked for Congressman, Leon Panetta (current head of the CIA), as a congressional aide.  Mario has spent the majority of his professional career as a prosecutor at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

In addition to his private practice, Mario currently enjoys participating as an oral advocacy instructor for Mexican attorneys for the Conference of Western Attorney Generals (“CWAG”) as well as for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (“NITA”).  Mario also enjoys being an assistant soccer coach for Marin FC, a select ranked soccer club.  
Mario has been a member of SF La Raza Lawyers Association since 1989.
